Honestly, I love Blair. I never have shipped any GG couple minus Dair, so I was watching mostly for Blair. I love her to pieces, she’s my favorite.
But where people got this idea that Blair was a strong girl is beyond me. This is the same girl who, moments after finding out Nate cheated on her, was trying to pretend it never happened. This is the girl who was sold for a hotel and five episodes later was ready to take the guy back. This is the girl who cheated on Louis with Chuck in S4.
Blair is driven by insecurity, not strength or weakness. That’s all it ever was. It’s why she is mean and bossy, it’s why her relationship with Serena was a disaster, it’s why she stuck to Nate, it’s why she had an eating disorder, it’s why she has an obsession with fairytales. I don’t think I need to go on. Is she weak? Idk. I wouldn’t say that, I just wouldn’t say she’s strong either. She’s human. She is both.
And no, she doesn’t push the people she loves away. She clung to Nate even though she shouldn’t have. He was clearly not invested, he cheated on her, but she couldn’t let go of him because of this dream she had of them being a perfect couple. She pushed Chuck away because of the dynamics of their relationship in S1-2. Once he said ILY, she didn’t push him away, she constantly went back to him when she SHOULD HAVE pushed him away.
Dan hasn’t made her weak or dependent on anyone, she was always this way. And she depends on him because she trusts him, because he doesn’t screw her over, because he’s the one person in her life she’s ever had that puts HER first. He would do anything for her. Strong or weak, ANYONE would depend on someone like that, especially when their life is a mess. And let’s be honest, for the first time, her dependence on someone is actually healthy.
And lastly, Blair doesn’t like Dan because she needs him. She fell for Louis because of what she thought he’d be - first off, a prince in the literal term. Second, she thought he would be a prince in a figurative way too. That their relationship would be easy and natural, simple. She started to be drawn to Chuck because she saw his transformation to a good guy. The whole point of this season is that your prince isn’t always who you think it is. It’s Dan because he’s a good guy in his nature. Because he’s an even better guy around Blair. Her relationship with Dan is the “pure and simple love” she described as having wanted BEFORE her and Dan ever became a thing.
Blair isn’t who she was in high school, some people just have to accept that. The scheming, the plots, the drama… they messed up her relationship with Chuck. She was forced to grow up after that, and she realized it’s not what she wants. She said as much to Serena, she is over the games. Why do people feel that if Blair is not who she was at 16-17, she’s changed? She hasn’t. She’s still Blair but she wants different things in life. Dan provides them. That’s why she wants him. That’s why the writers took their time to introduce DB. Because for a long time, these two never would have worked. They can work now.
For the love of God, her feelings weren’t rushed. THEY JUST WEREN’T SHOWN. The writers did it on purpose. They gave her no POV which made her feelings ambiguous to the audience. That was the point. There’s nothing rushed about it because we have no idea when the eff these feelings started to develop. She kissed him back last episode, meaning they were there. They can’t exactly NOW start building up her feelings because if she didn’t have them by now, she never would have. Simple as that.
With Dan, Blair is mean, kind, vulnerable, honest, genuine, sarcastic, fun, hilarious, complicated, etc. She is BLAIR. In fact, when he’s the person that brings out the “old Blair” more than anyone. She is suffocated by both Louis and Chuck because it’s always misery.
